Sergeant Stephen Liczbinski, assigned to the 24th District, was on patrol and responding to a radio call of a robbery in progress at a Bank of America branch on Aramingo Avenue in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia on May 3, 2008 at 11:30am. After surveying the area, he saw a car matching the description of the get-away car, and began to follow him when the driver abruptly stopped the car. The passenger exited the vehicle, and fatally shot Sergeant Liczbinski with a high-powered automatic rifle, while he was attempting to exit his patrol vehicle. Sergeant Liczbinski was 39 years old, served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 12 years, and is survived by his wife and three children.
