Gary Skerski

Officer Gary Skerski, assigned to the 15th District, was responding to a police radio call for a "robbery in progress" at Pat's Cafe, located at 4690 Castor Avenue on May 8, 2006 at 10:00 pm. Upon arrival, his partner approached the front door of the property, while Officer Skerski went to the side door of the bar, where he was met by an armed and dangerous felon who shot and fatally wounded him with a sawed-off shotgun. Officer Skerski succumbed to his injuries the following day. Officer Skerski was 46 years-old, served with the Department for 16 years, and is survived by his wife, two children, and his parents.
