Jose M. Ortiz

Police Officer Ortiz, assigned to the 25th District, was working a burglary detail in the area of 9th and Cambria Streets at approximately 2:45pm on September 18, 2000. He became involved in a foot pursuit with a suspect who was fleeing police when he was struck by a police vehicle responding to calls for assistance. Officer Ortiz succumbed to his injuries three days later. He was 29 years-old, served with the Department for 4 years, and is survived by his wife and daughter.
