Police Officer McLaughlin, assigned to Foot Traffic, was working on crowd control after a fire broke out at Front and Chestnut Streets on September 9, 1960 at approximately 2:03pm. He was severely injured when a fire hose coupling broke from a hydrant, sending gushing water toward the southeast corner where he was standing. He succumbed to his injuries a little over a month later.
