Police Officer Montijo was responding to a disturbance and report of an armed gunman in the 400 block of N. Fairhill Street, near Lycoming Street, on June 13, 1990 at approximately 10:30pm. Officer Montijo ordered the suspect to drop his weapon as he approached the scene. The offender then opened fire, fatally wounding him. He succumbed to his injuries the following day. Officer Montijo was 35 years-old, served with the Department for 2 years, and is survived by his wife and three children.
